CO elk preference point question.

I haven't hunted in Colorado. I'm trying to get a handle on the preference point system. I thought initially that the PP Required that CODOW posts on their website meant that's what you needed to apply. But they don't post it until after the draw. So I guess what PP Required means is that's how many points it took to have a chance. Is that correct?

Your assumption is correct.

You can always apply for the draw!

CO elk preference point question.

Welcome the biggame draw process, every state is totally different, If your going to hunt elk in colorado each year then take advantage of their system, thats what it is there for. First goto the website click on hunting , biggame , statistics. Reveiw the past years to see what it takes for P-Pionts. Some units are none some only take a couple pionts and most of the trophy units take many pionts. Anyway if you want to build points and still hunt the same year then on the application use your first choise for point only and your second choise for a unit that dont take any points or mabey spilts between one and none. After a few years you will have a desent hunt or many years you will have a trophy hunt. Remember most units give 35percent of the tags to non residents.

I would suggest you go to hunterstrailhead.com

The site lets you click on a state, enter the species and the unit number and a particular weapon if you want. It will then give you the pref points needed in the last year to get a tag.....much much faster than the stat sheet on the state web site in colorado....
