CO 2nd, 3rd season elk

How exacly does 2nd and 3rd season elk work?  Are they all over the counter tags in those certain units?  Are there a limited number of tags?  First come first serve?  What are the dates? I have been looking at the regulations and it seems confusing and unclear to me.

Sorry about the questions, I just want to get things straight and figured you gurs on here know the laws inside and out.

Also, what is the hunter orange policy in these seasons?

Some times you really need to

Some times you really need to be a lawyer to figure out just what is being said in the regulations.  So what you read is that  there are unlimited tags for both 2nd and 3rd seasons except for the units listed in that paragraph witch are draw units and have caps.

As far as the hunter orange, you must wear at least 500 sq inches of solid daylight fluoresecent orange above the waist and  part of it needs to be on the head.  So none of the camo style of clothing is allowed

So pretty much a vest and hat.

What are the dates for 2nd and 3rd season. Are these areas overrun with hunters during these seasons?

Thanks for the help!!!

Second season is October

Second season is October 23-31

Third season is November 6-14

As far a hunters everywhere it depends.  Units that have good access and good roads might have more hunters than the ones that don't.  I live in unit 44 and while there are quite a few hunters it usually quites down after the weekend and the week days are not too bad at all.  Likewise if you get off the beaten path you will see fewer hunters.

Iinteresting comment about

Iinteresting comment about the orange.  I have always thought/interpreted the regs to mean you had to wear a vest with minimum 500 sq in plus also a head cover of some type that had orange on it.  Am I to now interprete that it only has to be a total of 500 sq in combined?  If that is the case then I might not need to have an orange cover for my backpack afterall if my headgear is big enough.

Just to expand on what's been said

The 2nd and 3rd OTC tags are bull only, 4 pt minimum.  Those are unlimited, and only valid in these units: http://wildlife.state.co.us/NR/rdonlyres/B7D620EA-2323-40DE-A7D1-783AD945A920/0/2010EM000U2_3RGMUs.pdf

Leftover tags go on sale tomorrow.  Those will be mostly cow tags, but there are some first and 4th season bull and either sex tags available too.

If you don't have your hunter safety card yet, you won't be able to buy a license.

For orange, I've never measured my orange, but I just wear a vest and a hat, and no DWM has ever had a problem with it.
