Is Camo absolutely nesessary to hunt elk in the fall in Wyoming. The reason I am asking is because I have Filson tin cloth packer coat and would like to use it when I am hunting. What do you think?
I've never worn camo when hunting elk. I hunt in the muzzleloader season, which means I have to get almost (though, not quite) as close as bow hunters, but it also means I am required to wear blaze orange (this is in Colorado, I'm not certain but would guess the rules are similar in WY).
When hunting elk, just like when hunting deer, wind direction and the noise you make are WAAAAY more important than the color of your clothes.
There are times when the deer are simply not moving and you're forced to make something happen. Maybe you're up against a full moon or hot weather. This is when a silent drive to force deer to move should be considered.
By silent drive, you're not yelling and making a commotion to scare the deer. When deer are panicked, they're liable to bust out of the cover on a dead run, and any shot you get will be tough to make.
