cleaning sheds

While scouting whitetail I found a shed moose antler and thought it would make a lovely addition to the stylish decor of our camp. It's in pretty good shape - almost completely bleached but still has the ridges and bumps on it.

It has been somewhat discoloured from lying on the forest floor and was wondering if anyone out there knew any tricks for cleaning rid of the green stains it has developed?

(Also posted this is the whitetail forum)

I've heard camps described in many different words, but none of those words have ever included "stylish decor". Wink

I have not actually done this but you may want to try just boiling the antler in water and adding some bleach to it. Might work and if it doesn't you can still hang up the miscolored/warped antler. If anybody asks, you can just say some moron on biggamehunt.net told you to boil it in bleach. You obliged and it made matters worse...

I just hung it "as is". It goes perfectly with the decorative "walleye" Christmas lights and the stain where my dog knocked a full pot of chili on the floor.

I clean sheds soaking the discolored parts in a mild bleach( old dutch ) works good. Don't let sheds soak 4 too long. Wipe down with damp cloth. If soaked too long, antlers get chalky.

I have found deer sheds that way, all I do is put them out in the sun for a bit. They bleach right out to match the rest of it.
