I got another bear yesterday and will try to post some pics of the actual cleanning process in the next couple days.

Thanks to billythekidrock, the claws are now resting comfortably in the borax.
Couple questions remain-1)Will the claws split if you attempt to boil them to pull them off the bone, and 2)Has anybody made anything out of them?

Boiling may make them split, or melt/distort if done too long or too hot. There is really no reason to take the claw sheath off the bone.

Leaving the bone in would probably provide a better place to drill a hole to string a leather thong for the hatband that I have in mind.

How long do you ordinarily leave them in the borax?

Depends. For years in a plastic bag if I am not doing anything with them. Otherwise I put them in a bowl of borax, on the table and turn them every couple days until dry. Sometimes it takes weeks.
