i have a bit of a delima. i am hunting in a remote area in idaho and and have found a place where i would like to camp because it's flat and is only 30 yards or so from a small spring. however the elk use a large creek thats about 250 yards away from the camp spot. how close is too close to camp to where the elk are.

I agree you are too close unless you intend to cold camp it and be there in the morning to ambush them. For cooking, fire and any noise you need to be furthur away. In my book at least a quarter to half a mile.

I agree that you are to close. When you cook, have your campfire going or just in camp with the hunting party you will be giving yourself away. They hear, see and smell better then we. So for me at minimum a 1/2 mile away. Hope this helps.

thanks for the advice. i was pretty sure i was too close but since we are cold camping it i thought it would maybe be ok. however i think i will just try to find another camp spot just to be safe.
