Choice of Bears

Two years ago I took my first Pa Black Bear. a two year old with a live body weight of 139.
This year there ar six bears near my hunting stand, thats the report from my neighbor.
I've only seen one small bear, and lots of sign!
So I know that bear are in the area.
My question is which bear should I harvest?
I won't shoot the yearlings and don't think I should shoot the mother.
What are your thoughts

I respect you for not harvesting the sow!! Or the yearlings...................IMO sows should never be taken if they have cubs with them but it is legal to take them hear in NH.

That being said, if the meat is not a neccesity I would continue to sit in your stand and wait for a single bear to come in that appears to be an adult. Hopefully a nice sized boar will come in for you! Good Luck................

By the way, nice looking bear from 2 years ago............

Exactly my thoughts too. Enjoy the hunt, those memories are your true trophies if you harvest one or not.

..............Just have patience, and wait............PA has bigger black bears than we do, in most parts of AK(except for PWS)....Hey.CONGRATS on your bear!!

-We like to see this. ..Black bear is what we harvest the most(halibut, salmon, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, next.and sheep is our fav hunt).........we bait in spring, stalk up in the high country/berries in fall.............Don't lose hope, or feel like you are limited...........

-Watch the sows...and sows w' cubs come and go..........
-watch the young bear w/ long legs, ears on top, come and go...
-keep baiting and feeding..heck, we end up feeding BROWN bear mostly,up here ; and have to wait for them to move on (or, we pick a diff. area...........)

-BUT...a BIG black bear.....you will know, and he will come...just watch, and feed, and wait- short-looking legs, small-looking head, big-bodied, swaggering....sure of himself;and cautious; :EARS on the SIDE of his head.(not top).

-Bait with cheap dog food and beer...........and Anise.(try it).[/img]
