Change in KS Turkey Hunting Law = Maybe

I was sitting in a committee hearing and Wildlife and Parks introduced a bill. It was verbal so no written copies were available. I mention this because my details might be off a little, but I believe the proposal was not to require tags for fall turkey hunting - instead to set a bag limite like pheasants.

Not requiring a tag I am sure of, but whether it is just fall hunting is where I might be wrong.

Sounds good to me!
We probably have more turkeys than pheasant and quail combined right now.

The turkey bill passed out of committee today.

Would be good news if it becomes law.

I would like them to raise the number of Gobblers we can shoot in the Spring. Got my 2 birds in thirty minutes this year. Fall Turkey hunting just doesn't do it for me.

I hail from Olathe. New to this blog but not new to KS or the outdoors. I love to hunt Whitetails with Bow or Flintlock longrifle. No 2 craze is old Gobblers in the Spring. Big smile

Could this be what you were referring to, found it on the KDWP:

"House Bill 2748 -- allows the secretary of KDWP to establish requirements relating to tagging of wild turkey by regulation. KDWP requested introduction of this bill to allow more flexibility in future wild turkey management options; and "

And Del, I live in southern OP, maybe we could exchange stories or even scout together this year. I am really getting into bow hunting over the last few years.

RIK,

Do you know any good hunting places that aren't crowded in the fall? Big smile

Wildlife and parks have done an exceptional job making kansas top five in deer hunting and moving on up in turkey hunting the laws were placed for this reason.. i support the system that is in place now, i believe if u harvested ur two birds in thirty min.. then maybe u should challenge ur self a little more maybe hunt with a bow, try taking one with bow no blind. kdwp is doing an outstanding job and i think leave everything the way it is!

180,

A couple yrs ago I took a gobbler with my bow that scored 106 NWTF points. he had 5 beards. There are more than enough turkeys out there to raise the limit to 3 or 4 in the spring. Heck most guys don't get more than 1 bird. We even have them in the city limits of olathe. Take a look at this tom.
