Theres reason to complain. We live in a state where for the most part there is no limit on deer and and a season that starts with guns and ends with guns. 4.5 months of it. Its plumb ridiculous and the hunting is poor overall because of it. Sure you can load up on spike bucks and four pointers if you sit watching a cornpile that last 30 minutes of legal, but other than that deer are so shot up and pressured you basically never see them. Its some of the poorest deer hunting I have ever experienced to be quite honest.

I have hunted deer very little this year. I did miss a pretty decent 8 ptr in the back and unfortunately that was the only SC deer I have had in bowrange all season. My neighbors on the other hand have kileld upwards of 20 does and young bucks shooting with 50 mm optics 55 minutes after legal sunset. There isnt much question as to why i am not seeing deer. they have them so shot up they wont move until after dark.

Due to some family health issues i had to cancell most of my out of state deer trips this season so unless I just happen to luck up in the next two weeks, this very well may be the first season since I started deer hunting that i dont kill a deer. While I do have to admit I havent hunted much and definately with little enthusiasim, the main detractors from me getting excited to hunt is the poor quality of the overall hunting I have available to me this season. Sure its nice to just get out there, but if you sit 8-9 times and see nothing but tracks that you know are made after dark, its gets old real fast.

If it werent for the fact that you have to have a big game liscense to hunt turkey in SC I wouldnt even buy one to be blunt.

you said it brother...people around here just don't seem to understand "deer management". it just burns me up to see 3 guys go up the road with 4 spikes and 3 does in the back of the truck.

there's 2 reasons that i even consider buying my hunting liscense...turkey and my 13 year old.

Yeah I was looking into Tennessee high fence operation to see if i could salvage my season. LMAO

Fact is, if I was determined to get a deer I would go get one. I have a couple hundred whitetails under my belt and while it used to be some kind of important for me to make a good showing every year, this year it just aint so important. I have spent more time cutting trails, clearing undebrush around growing oaks, and planting Chestnut trees than hunting. I dont have much back there but what I have holds plenty of deer its just still to young of a cutover to be able to hunt it effectively. I am getting it prepared for the coming years and I am sure it will pay off eventually.

I'd like to see some serious changes take place in the Carolinas and its starting to look like we may actually get some relief from the ridiculously liberal laws.

I have a deer in the freezer. More than enough fellas I know around here stacking deer with the rifles over corn piles. In fact you have to stay hush about how many folks you tell you would liek a deer around here lest you end up having to buy another freezer.

Like I said i could do the same, but it just doesnt seem to hold much value to me this year. I have other things to do and the hunt i seek isnt looking over a pile of bait. I have however been kicking around the thickets with the shotgun a bit and am not totally convinced that i wont drop one before jan 1 rolls around. If i dont, no biggie. I will be traveling again next year and going to places where me and my bow can hunt some quality whitetails.

That's the problem where I hunt, but we recently leased the property directly next to ours and this guy was shooting deer left and right, and he didn't even own it, and definitly didn't have permission. We sent the owner a nice letter about wildlife refuge and all of that stuff, and got a 10 year lease for 5 dollars and acre. Were basically controlling a whole set of woods thats around 120 + acres and a swamp thats 175. If i had to guess i'd say there was 20 deer on the whole thing due to being over killed and hunting pressure pushing them into some more woods. Hopefully those since this guy is gone and the steps were taking to anchor them into our property will help us prevail and have some nice hunting lands. I've never harvested a deer around where i live, and it's mostly due to idiots shooting everything they see. I was at a store and there happened to be a group of does walking in the field across the street, a man pulled out his rifle and shot the bigger doe, on land he had no clue who owned. It just goes to show that people have no respect for the wildlife, i'm not going to lie i'll shoot a nice buck and maybe even a doe if I havn't had a good year. But let's get real, where is the deer population going to be 20 years from today if idiots keep shooting all that they see??

Llano Texas hunt last year was horrible

For those who have hunted around central texas in Llano, you know that the deer are not monstrous in size, but they are always plentiful. We went on a 16 man hunt last year. (12 in one camp & 4 in another). Amazingly, NO ONE saw a deer. This was actually the first hunt for a couple of guys, and no one even saw a deer. I think there was one sighting while heading out to hunt.

Supposedly the horrible drought Central Texas had last year contributed to the lack of game. I think somebody cleared all the game out before we got there.

Well, Texas and everywhere else has had a ton of rain this year, so things should be back to normal.
