Car insurance.

This is not an advertisement. It is a tip. If you guys haven’t shopped car insurance lately, do it. After we bought a newer car, my annual car insurance went up $300 per year. That prompted me to look for a better deal. First I called my insurance company – nope no better deal available, so I told them I would shop around. While I was still talking to a second company (who offered to lower my rate $300) the first company called me back offering to lower my rate $600. That’s $600 in my pocket just for threatening to leave. I'm glad to get it, but a little ticked off that they have apparently been over charging me for years. Call your carrier, threaten to switch then go get at least a couple of quotes and see if you can get a better deal!

I found this to be true years

I found this to be true years ago as once you are with a company for a few years they figure you aren't going any where or check other rates. I get insurance through my job now that can't be beat with years of service discounts and such. I still check around every two years but can't do any better.

I used the same tactic with my cell phone provider recently and got them to drop the fee by 30 bucks a month to get me to stay. I pay less than 80 a month now for two phones and a kid who texts over 9000 times a month.

Thanks hunter25.

Thanks hunter25.  I think that you are right about them assuming that you aren't going anywhere to check other rates. You are smart to keep checking every couple of years to see if you can do any better.  I have a cell phone plan similar to yours, I just added limited texting for my wife and unlimited for my teenage son and through a little negotiation got it for a net increase of $2 per month along with the first two months free.  My next set of negotiations will be with the satellite TV provider and then maybe the credit card companies.  I don’t carry a balance on the cards but maybe I can get better rewards than I am getting now…. It won’t hurt to ask anyway.

Insurance

Yep, it pays to shop around from time to time, if you have been with the same Company more then 5 years, you are probably paying to much. jmo
