Yeah it was a nice deer. It was also the perfect place to intercept the bucks during the late stages of the rut, he just ran right out 180 yards in front of my stand, so I shot, unfortunately I was shaking and I was off my mark, the bullet severed his spinal cord, paralyzing the rear half of his body. I jumped out of the stand, which was maybe six feet up, leaped a barb wire fence without even paying attention to it, tore through thorn bushes to run after the deer, and then I fired a second shot, killing the deer instantly. The hard part was dragging him up two steep ridges to where we could get a truck in. It was a very interesting season, because up until that morning, last Friday, it had been going all wrong, inconsiderate loser neighbor, bad weather, a strangely clever and devious doe, and freezing cold, I wasn't feeling particularly encouraged until that morning. All it took was maybe forty seconds to make it go from a bad season to a great season.
