Calling feral hogs

I've tried calling feral hogs several times with no success. Most of the time I could see the hogs 100 yards away and wanted to call them in closer. Every time I would turn on my call they would turn and go the other way. This has happened at least 5 time.

I was wondering if any of you have had success calling them ? If so what sound were you using. I used my Foxpro electronic caller with the feeding hog sound and the fighting boar sounds. So lets hear your success stories.

Interesting idea. I'll try in

Interesting idea. I'll try in on my next outing. I'm gonna be waiting till it cools down just a little bit before I do much hunting. Chasing hogs in 100 degree heat is not as much fun.

What state do you guys live in? Do they consider the hogs there a nuisance or do you have to get a permit to shoot them? We have a couple ranches in Idaho that you can pay to play but nothing wild that I know of. Interesting bit never knew you could call em in but I guess they are like any other animal.

In California, it's pay to

In California, it's pay to play also.  But, they are the states most hunted big game animal, and until recently, were relatively cheap.  They still are not that expensive, as a tag is $25-$30, but you used to be able to buy a book of 5 tags for $25 or so.......

Hogs are hands down the most

Hogs are hands down the most hated animal in Oklahoma right now. They cause more property damage than anything else. As a bonus there are getting to be more and more of them. Around here if you find a pocket thats got hogs its nothing to see groups of 10-15. I've seen as many as 75 on a field at a time.

I've neve tried calling them

I've neve tried calling them either, I think spraying sow in heat sent around may help you they breed several times a year and they can smell that for a long ways. I have seen them breeding in Calif. Usually several boars and one sow and they are fighting and squealing. If the winds good you can walk right in.

Yeah breeding parties and

Yeah breeding parties and interesting. I love seeing the boars go at it. As far as hog scent goes....I dont like to smell them after I shoot them I'm sure not gonna go around squirting that stuff. It stinks to high heaven. I'd be afraid it would go off in the back of my truck and I'd have to sell or burn my truck. I cant even imagine it going off INSIDE the cab of the truck. BARF !

My experience with hogs has been that if the wind is good you can walk right up on them at any time. Ive walked 500 yards across a open field without even bending over and got up to 30 yards several times. Hogs cant see well and if they are busy they dont pay attention to noise. If you fool their nose it usually makes for a easy hunt. Or at least thats how it is here in Oklahoma

In my experiance hog hunting

In my experiance hog hunting its better to stay quit. a pig can't see worth a damn but his hearing is great. any sudden noise will get  a pack of these things riled up and running in every direction.

down here in FL there is no bag limit and you can kill them year roound on private land with a small game permit. or on public land during any open season as long as your taking it by the method of the open season...
