Called Bear in Arizona

In Arizona, practically everyone who hunts bear races out to the prickly pears and tries to spot and stalk them while eating this tasty cactus. However, I love to predator call and typically call them out of oak and manzanita thickets and have been doing so for the past 14 years. This is the first bear I have actually taken. It was spotted at 20 minutes into my calling, and I shot it about 10 minutes later. One shot at 70 yards with my .300 Winchester Magnum put him down. Enjoy the pictures! Keith

Kieth (The Man) nicely done!!!!
Nice bear congrats. Were you mouth calling or using electronics?
Do the bears out there head up into the Mts and hibernate or do they just not cave up at all?

In the part of Arizona where I like to hunt bears, they do not go into an all out hibernation like northern bears. They will "den-up" but may move around a bit within 50 yards of their den, but they will not shut down their bodies like more northern bears typically do. I have hunted bear on Thanksgiving weekend and found them out and about! But I typically hunt around 5,000 feet elevation, which is below our winter snow level.

I use only hand calls. I tried an electronic caller once, but I do not like the repetition that it works on. I can get much better variety and intonation and control off of a hand call.
