California.....3 strikes, I'm out.....

Ugh.  Doe tag......Nope.......Elk......Nope......Sheep.....Nope.....

Guess it's archery and rifle buck for me.  No "special" hunts.  Oh well.  I will be taking my 6 year old on his first hunt ever, with his grandpa, dove hunting in 79 days.  Got that to look forward to, as my "special hunt".

More points for next year......

Sorry you got no love from

Sorry you got no love from the California draw.  Sounds like you will still be able to get out there on some good hunts.  Good luck on the dove hunt.  First hunts are always memorable.

I thought it was "Three

I thought it was "Three Strikes and You get life?"

In your case, Three Strikes and you get a Lifetime Tag. ;)

Just trying to look on the bright side.

Taking your son will be the

Taking your son will be the best of all. Without the pressure of special hunts may give you even more time with him.

Hope your seasons go well.

Well, depending on where you

Well, depending on where you are, most of the tags have been given out already in the lottery.  You need to apply for them each year prior to June 2nd.  There are still some general season rifle tags, and archery tags left.

Let me know where, and with what weapon, you want to hunt.  I will try to help you out with tag advice.

That sucks !

Sean,

It sucks you did not get to draw the better tags, but its very cool your getting your son out there ! Mr. Cool! I honestly think people waite to long to get there kids out in the field, especially when it comes to big game hunting.

Keep up the great work Sean ! Thumbs up

KT, yep, some of us still

KT, yep, some of us still check this site daily, or at least every other day.  As for a gun, I have 30-06, which seems to be a good, all-around gun for out here.  From mule deer, to bear, pig, and elk, it's a versitile round.

Plus, with all these people freaking out about the Remington BDL problems (Unfounded, IMO) you can probably pick one up at a decent price.

Just remember out here is CA, if you hunt between Los Angeles and San Francisco, give or take, you are in a lead free zone.  Gotta hunt with copper or other type of bullet.  Make sure to get a map, it's a decent fine.
