30.06 is probably the most popular; closely followed by 300 Mag.
In Canada the venerable .303 Brit is also popular (but waning)
Others:
.338
.375
7mm Mag...

Basically any .30 calibre/7mm will work just fine

(a 30-30 is definitely pushing it and will really limit you effective range, but it will kill a moose)

.308 Caliber (30-06, 300 WSM, 300 Win Mag, 308 Win, 30-30, 300 RUM... etc)

I prefer the 7mm family, 7mm-08 Rem. ,.280 Rem. and 7mm Rem. Mag. I seem to get the best accuracy out of these calibers and here in Hawaii these calibers are more than enough for anything that roams these islands. I have shot numerous Axis Deer, Feral Pigs, Feral Goats and Mouflon Sheep with them. I tend to use the 7mm-08 the most because I hunt in fairly thick cover where the shots are within 100 yards. If I am going to hunt wide open spaces I use either the .280 or the 7mm Rem Mag. The best caliber to hunt with is the one that YOU like and shoot the best, These are just my favorites, Good luck on finding your perfect caliber.

Just about anything in the 308 caliber and above will be ideal and some of the smaller calibers like 7mm rem will work as well. Bullet selection is probably more important than the particular caliber. Use a controlled expansion bullet in a "heavy for caliber" offering for best results.

I'm using my m14 .308 180 grn nosler partition. and as a back up gun i'm bringing my k98 8x 57 175 grn sehara. the 308 i use 41gns of varget and the 8x57 i use 46.2 gns of varget. this is for moose bear and deer.

I've heard of lots of different cal. choices but personally I would go with a 270. or larger and frankly larger would be my preferrence. The bottom line is what you shoot best but as Ruark said " use enough gun". For me the 338. mag is it. Just my two pennies worth.

For me it would be "El Troubador" my .375 H&H if I draw a moose tag next season & loaded with either a 270 or 300 gr TSX

El Troubador

235 gr Barnes X fired from .375 H&H

A great choice, too. The venerable 375 H & H Magnum, I like it.

Anything in a .308 Calibre will do.
The Oldtimers used and still use a lot of 30-30 and .303 Brit in my neck of the woods. BUT they can call a Moose to eat out of your hand...LOL Laugh
For me, I build a .375X284 on a Vz24 Mauser with a Weaver 2.5X scope and use a 300Grain Win Silvertip. Never a second shot and most were at 50-100 Yards/Meters. Thumbs up
