jr - while I may not agree with all you say, I must laud your ability to tackle controversial issues in a non-combative manner.

You obvious have liberal leanings, but you tend to look at the entire issue from many different angles.

This is why even his fellow lefty attacks him. Have you noticed Civet reacts to him like an alley cat who's territory is being invaded by one of his own? This is because Libs (at least the extreme ones) don't think open mindedly but dogmaticaly. They cannot fathom why anyone would think or say anything other than what they are told to say and take special exception to one of their own displaying this type of behavior.

Yes, anyone who deviates from the Mother TelePrompter is not welcome.

Rush (you know the leader of the GOP) does a bit where he'll play the audio from the various news sources and they'll all be reading the same script.

Simpleton seems a bit conflicted at times, but he is definitely a liberal so it is funny to watch the few liberals on here going at it with each other.

Sage the religious references are directed more towards Muslim society in general. Any well educated person from around the world is also familiar with the Koran as well as our bible and can often even quote from it. Most people in the world are neither Christians, Jews, nor Muslims. As he said the first Muslim American sworn into congress did so on the Koran from Thomas Jefferson's personal library.

Osama's take on the speach is that Obama is Jewish.

I think from the reaction both good and bad the speach did what was intended, signal that this is a different administration with a different outlook. I too disagree with much of Obama's domestic policy.

jrsimplot and bunny please stay on topic or why not start a thread about how to argue on forums or whatever interests you. My childredn are currently interested in strawman sock puppetry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_sock_puppet

Pangocat,

This was an intelligent, well thought out, constructive post in which you actually implied you disagreed with the President on a few issues. My question is, who are you and what have you done with our Civet?

Pangolin, I don't know why you have such a hard time believing that someone could be progressive AND emotionally stable, but I'll make you a deal. I'll stay on topic and stop giving you pointers on how to sound intelligent if you stop playing games and debate like your last post.

President Obama is definitely taking a chance by reaching out the the Muslim world, but frankly, we've tried everything else. Engagement often gets results that aren't possible through confrontation. Maybe by focusing on similarities we'll get somewhere. Expat said that no one ever achieved peace through weakness, but the counterpoint to that is that every war has ended around a bargaining table.

Point taken. Good thought. Intellignet. If our lefties are going to start thinking and posting this intelligently I may owe them an apology one day. In fairness SoCokhunter usualy does. Maybe he and Jr are rubbing off on Pangolin. I may have to start taking them seriously. Two excellent posts, back to back. I dont agree with a lot of your views but thoughts like that are hard to argue with.

That was kinda obvious... still made me wanna do this: Sick

I wasn't attacking Obama about it. I just have an aversion to politicians getting that religious, no big deal.

And WHY did they come to the bargaining table? Was it because they didn't see us as a threat?

Hmmm?

Even though we lost Vietnam, it was B-52s, not Jane Fonda, that brought Hanoi to the bargaining table. Vince Lombardi said, "When you've got 'em by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow."
