Sorry to hear about this. I, at one time, was thinking about buying those binos. Can't the Moderator or Webmaster track this person down?

I could be mistaken, but I don't ever recall seeing that member post anything in the discussions of the forum. Maybe they signed up just to sell stuff or scam members here.

Re: buyer beware

A lot of people drop into BGH and only post in the classifieds. It's impossible to know who is or isn't being honest. To protect yourself don't ever send cash, check or any type of money/wire transfer. If I'm not mistaken, Paypal will stand behind the purchase and refund your money if it turns out to be a scam. Plus they have details about the person receiving the money that we don't have. We did try to contact this seller, but he did not respond. From checking the IP address he used to access BGH, he appears to be from Washington state. So armed with that, you may be able to contact the Washington authorities and give them his name (if it's even correct) and email address. Maybe they could help you out, especially if they've gotten other complaints. If he's ripping people off, it's highly unlikely that he's only done it this one time.

Re: buyer beware

Sorry to hear about that. I've had a few run ins with folks like that. Thankfully we have a system like PayPal now that does help in these situations.

As for prosecution, you'd have to have his physical address to even begin proceedings. I'm sure there has to be some kind of telecommunication fraud happening here, however, which would make it federal. Beyond that, you'd get a better idea just stopping in at the local cop shop and asking or using a free advice hour from a lawyer.
