Bucks Shedding Their Velvet?

Has anyone seen any bucks shedding their velvet yet? I have not. The next time I will check my trail cams will probably on the 9th or 10th. I'm sure I will have some pics of some shedding on those sets of pics. In the meantime I will be doing some video taping of some bean fields here and there and I will probably see some soon there. I may be going out this Thursday evening to one of my favorite spots by the little country church. One tell tale sign I have seen is a number of deer with their winter coats already.

The last bucks I saw were

The last bucks I saw were about a week ago and at that time they were still in full velvet here. Hopefully i will be able to get out again next week and look for some more. The elk I watched this week were all hard horned and ready for action.

Here is a question for you

Here is a question for you western hunters. Elk, muley's, whitetail's, blacktail's, do they all shed around the same general time out there? What have you seen in the past as to which one is first and so on?

Well, I can't compare the

Well, I can't compare the others species, but the local deer here are mostly shedding right now.  Our archery season opens this weekend, and we will see one or 2 taken that are still in velvet.  However, not many at all.

As for elk, the last couple of weeks were the main seasons here.  From what I could see of the photos, they were mostly hard antlered already.  Again, maybe the first week or so had a soft antlered one, but not many at all.

All the elk that I have seen

All the elk that I have seen the last week weather in pictures from bow hunters or in person are all hard horned and no velvet except for the spikes and I have see the spikes with velvet into October and November.  They just don't know any better.

Now all the mule deer that I have seen are all still in velvet.  The bigger bucks should start to polish them off in the next week or so.

I put a stalk on a very nice 4x4 Blacktail on Friday(sept 2). That guy was hard horned, It looked like maybe sheded a week or so ago. I wish I could have sealed the deal on him. he was the biggest blacktail I have seen a long time. I hope i can get another shot at him later this season.
