Browning Eclipse Stainless 270 WSM

I'm buying a new rifle this year and this is what I'm leaning towards. Anyone who has some knowledge of this gun I would appreciate your input. I was thinking about the 7Mag WSM but I heard this cartridge really isn't selling to well and that ammo might be hard to find in a couple of years. Anyway I waw just wondering what kind of groups you get with your rifle and what bullets do you find work best. I was going to go with the Federal Vital Shok in TSX 130 gr. Thanks in advance.

Not familiar with the firearm but as to your bullet selection i would much prefer the 150 grainer, out performs the 130.
Go here:

Check the white boxes on two different bullets for you calibre and at the bottom of that section Check the compare box option

I don't know but I've heard the lighter grain bullets shoot better out of the 270 WSM. I looked at the Winchester XP3 in the 150 gr. I'd like to buy about 3 differnent types of shells and see what works best.

Of course, Winchester = (Winchester Short Magnum). But they don't buy them. They are very popular now, but is it a fad or will they all make it?

I would say go with the WSM, take a look at the 140gr accubonds. I have had my .270wsm for 4 years now and have more hunting opportunities than most people and have had my best sucess with the accubonds in both on game performance and accuracy. Plus if you go to the federal chart like someone above mentioned and check 130tsx, 140accubond, and any 150gr you will see that the 140 catches and then passes the 130 in velocity within 250yds and has more energy.

I own a Model 70 classic sporter in 270 WSM I put a Zeiss conquest 3-9x40 with leupold mounts, I can cover 5 shots with a quarter at 100 yards no problem. I used the fusion ammo to sight in, but when I go elk hunting I switched to Federal Premium 150 gr nosler partitions. The rifle loves them!

I don't think the 270 wsm is a fad, too many manufacturers offer rifles in this caliber. Remington, Sako, Savage, Ruger, Browning, Cz, Winchester, Blazer, Kimber, and Weatherby are just a few. If all these companies put time and money into producing rifles for the WSM they must think it's worth it in the long run. Yes

He's probably long since bought his rifle, since the original post was 9 months ago last February. The new Browning X-Bolt will be available in 2008.

I bought a 270WSM in 2002 when they first came out. Mine is a Model 70 Classic/Stainless and has been a great gun. I like the caliber. Easy to reload for. Great velocity. I've shot several elk, mule deer and a big horn sheep with mine. I use the Barnes 140g TSX..

And yes, the 270 WSM and 300 WSM are the better sellers. But if you like a 7mm, I'm sure you will be able to get brass for some time to come.
