Browning B80 troubleshooting?

My Browning semi auto shotgun has lost the ability to hold the action open.  This makes it inconveneient to load singly for trap shooting.  Any idea where I could trouble shoot this.  Anybody have a B80 or any ideas?

Sweet Gun

I have a B-80 in 20 ga W/2 bbls (Slug and a bird with 3 chokes) love the gun to death!!!

Never have had the proub that you are describing.  Guess I am not a lot of help but I dont see many (or "any" actually) B-80s out there.

I don't own one but you

I don't own one but you should be able to narrow it down to one of two things.  Either some dirt or a broken part.  I would start with a real good cleaning and see how it does.

I think you are both right on track.

Thanks guys.  I think you are both right on track.  I love the B80 and it IS overdue for a good cleaning.

I know they are hard to find.  I've been looking for a second one for several years since I pretty much lost the use of mine when my son took up using it for hunting.    It has been my goto gun for turkey hunting and my son has been using it the last year or so to bag geese and shoot trap.  It has really gotten a work out shooting trap.  We’ve run probably 100 shells through it every week for the last few months.  Up until now it has functioned flawlessly and has been absolutely accurate.  It still functions perfectly except that it no longer locks open.  I downloaded a manual and plan to tear it down for a good cleaning this weekend.  Hopefully that will cure all ills!  I'll let you know - Mike

problem solved :)

With the aid of the online manual I tore the Browning down for the very first time. The suggested maintenance schedule called for a tear down and cleaning of the gas system every thousand shells. I have easily put three or four thousand shells through it without cleaning at all. The malfunction of the hold open was easily remedied and easily spotted once I had the trigger group outside the shotgun. A small piece (probably #8 size) shot pellet had found its way inside the action and wedged where it restricted a moving part. This had probably leaked out of a badly crimped reload. To the Browning’s credit the gun never failed to feed or fire even with the neglect I treated it to. One added bonus from all of this was that the manual also told me that the magazine plug limiting the magazine tube capacity to three for legal waterfowling was removable. I am happy to report that my magazine tube can now hold one additional shell for turkey hunting starting this weekend. Thumbs up Dancing

WHAT?

Are you kidding me?  I have had this gun for 12 years and never knew it had a plug in it?

Bought it from an electrician that use to sub to the company I work for.  He said it was a three shot and I never took it any farther.

Could you send along instructions as to how to unplug?

Thanks, kind of feel like an idiot.
