I have a deer on my property....appears to me to be 4.5 yrs old....
one side of his rack was broken off in velvet......
the other side was complete early in the season with 7 points, non typical (i posted the pic in an earlier thread)
now a few weeks ago, the other side broke off......so hes got just the brow tines left and 2 stumps.
what causes a deer to break off both sides?
too old (osteoporosis)?
Just recently he also appears to have lost an eye in a fight...he's got a big gash (i watched him through binocs today and his face was pretty tore up) but was eating fine and didn't seem overtly bothered
I was originally going to try to take him if i had a shot....but now i may wait till next year to see what he becomes (he should be a real beast by then and I may still be here given the economy)
But i would take him this year, if its believed to be a genetic problem.
I figure he's got a good body....pretty close to 180lb dressed
What would you do?
take him and remove the genes, or let him live ....if given the shot.
