Broad heads

I recently tried the rage broad heads and found that they open during flight. I was wondering if any of you avid bow hunters could give me your opinion on what is the best broad head?

You probably got a back head

You probably got a back head or something.  I would send it back.  I have heard mostly great things about the Rage broadheads.  I personally use Grim Reaper (125 gr) for mechanical heads, and Muzzy (100 gr) for fixed blades.  It all depends upon what type of game I am hunting.

I have shot the Rage 3 blades

I have shot the Rage 3 blades for the last three years and have not had any issues with them opening in flight.  But this past season I switched to the Slick Trick Magnums and I must saw they are deadly accurate and do a number on antelope.  Had a buddy shoot a cow elk with one and it left a great blood trail.

Maybe the black rubber band

Maybe the black rubber band thing near the bottom of the broadhead broke so it didnt hold the blades closed?  It could of happened and you didnt realize it.

I use the Rage two blades and

I use the Rage two blades and they work great for me.  I have a story pending about my first archery buck and it has a picture of the entrance wound caused by the Rage broadhead.  i do check my broadhead each time I nock an arrow and periodically while on the stand to make sure I didn't bump it and cause it to open.

The Rage two blade flies exactly like my field point.  I could tune my bow for fixed broad heads and the would fly good, but the point of impact was always a little lower than my field points so i felt like i need to practice with the broad head instead of the field points.

With the Rage, I practice either with field poiints or with the practice head.  It is nice that they fly the same and the point of impact is identical.

I used the Rage 2 blade this

I used the Rage 2 blade this year for the first time and had no problem. They do fly like a field point. And they cut a nice hole when they hit.

Here is a picture of my deer shot with the Rage.

Slick Tricks for me

I've tried several fixed blades as well as both Rages and Sonorans (Swhaker).  I had the same issues as you with the Rages (both) and it only took me hitting a deer once with the 2-blade and having only one blade open for me to put those away for good.  I use Slick Trick standards now.

You can see a more detailed report from me in a reply to Hawkeye's question about the same issue.
