BP pellets in a sidelock!? It works!!!

Hello from Germany1

Normally using loose bp in my Traditions Deerhunter I have now tested around with bp pellets. And I have to say it works real good, nearly similar to loose bp. Only thing to be aware of is to use magum caps and wading. Furthermore are not all ML usable because of their breech plug. I found that Traditions Ml are best, because they have only a short pwder chamber which can be easily overjumped by the flasch of the cap to ignite the pellet.

Kir, we have not seen you over on the new flintlock hunting site, it is not ONLY for flintlocks, we hunt all things with all gear, but a number of us only use flintlocks for everything.

Yes, I have shot the pellets in flintlocks nad caplocks too and they workd fine, a good channel and a dry bore and breech are the main reasons people have hangfires, not the powder, we loaded 12 rifles and shotguns with black powder, pellets and pyrodex loose and after firing them all asked everyone attending the class to pick out based on firing speed what loads where in what rifles or shotguns.

they could not do it.

a proper operating flintlock, caplock or what have you that is maintained and loaded correctly and primed properly with a maintained lock will fire within 1/1000 of a second from fastest to slowest, that's almost too fast for most people to hear or see a difference.

glad you are trying new things, I hope you will report good Roe buck and Red Stag hunting with both loose powder and pellets!

please stop over at the new forum, it is brand new and getting rolling, the link is below....

Last sunday a hunting college was able to harvest a nice roebuck with his .45 Deerhunter at 30 m. He used 2 bp pellets and a 240 grs Maxiball. The buck went down a once.
