Bow Only - Public Ground in Illinois

Hey Folks,

I went to Illinois this year (2010) and hunted Ten Mile Creek in southern Illinois.

It was crowded and was not really what I expected.

I am going back again in 2011 and would like to hunt a bow only area.

I have located two - Sam Parr and Sam Dale Lake - both appear to be good looking areas.

Does anyone have any experience in these areas? If yes, can you offer thoughts, opinions or advice?

Also does anyone know of any other areas that are bow only in Illinois?

I live about 15 miles from Sam Dale and I have never hunted there. I know there is a good population of deer there and I don't think all that many people hunt there. I think Red Hill state park is also a bow only area. I think it gets hunted quite a bit though.

sam parr area

I live a couple miles from sam parr and used to hunt it alot. I have been scouting it some this winter and hopefully found some spots no one has been or goes. I also stumbled on public land that has been hunted much at all. The 4 times I went there I was surrounded by deer all night. Its not a bad drive from my town but very worth it.

Great work Nigel - must be super to live in a bowhunting area like that and be able to access it at will!

I went to Illinois last spring and scouted for three days - helped me immensely when I got there - but I would still love to discover some bow only areas for the future.

Hope you have great luck in the areas you found...
