bought 300 van.wby walmart (300 wby wont group what to get)

I've owned one Wby.
Sounds like a stock is grabbing the barrel. Barrel resonation is being restricted.
Try freefloating the barrel with a spacer (business card) under the front of the action. When you tighten the the action be sure the recoil lug is all the way back. Tighten the rear screw(s) first then the screw at the front. Don't over tighten any of them but, make them snug. Be sure you can run a dollar bill between the stock and the complete length of the barrel. If not, get a thicker spacer. Get some factory ammo. Shoot at 50 yds. You should be able to get them to touch. Then 100 yds.
If it shoots better you'll need to open the barrel channel. It may have come from the factory with this problem. Sometimes they don't get the stock fitted right and over time they swell and/or warp. Creating pressure on the barrel. Weatherby used to guarantee 1" or less at 100 yds. My made in Japan model did clover leaves at 100.
Don't go messing with the freebore on a Weatherby. They purposely cut the riflings a little further up the barrel.

Here is some of the latest, I shot like a mad dog all day sat after the wind settled down.
the jap will do pretty good at keeping them around 1 1/2" at 100
the van gaurd will do a very good job at under a 1 1/2" and might I add it did one 11/16" group and a 3/4" group
I also shot 3 shots at 325YRDS with the vangaurd and it did 2 7/8" sweet for me ck out pics lol
the recipe it liked was the 7828 and the 168gr bthp hornady. (will they be good for elk?) neener!

The latest! last night I loaded up 3 of what i thought was my sweet recipe with the ocl longer than recomended length.
But after i loaded them I relized I had 78grs instead of 82 so what the heck they were in the safe zone so i shot them and it give a 1 3/16" group so went back to press and loaded 82grs with the ocl about 2 hundreths longer (same as
1 3/16" group)
and it produced a 9/16" group so I tried it one more time with same load and it gave a 13/16" group
the vangaurd is rockin
I will try it in Jap tonight if wind is not howling!!!!!!

are you guys tired of my updates yet? hope it may help someone

Good work. Looks great.
Now that you know you can get them to shoot tighter groups. What are you planning on using as a hunting bullet. I believe that Hornady hpbt is a 168gr target bullet. You'll want at least 180gr possibly 200gr out of that Weatherby.
The alloys in the copper jackets of bullets, from different manufacturers, will make the jacket either harder or softer in density. Creating either more or less pressure in the barrel.
Usually if you pick a hunting bullet of the same manufacturer as the target versions the densities will be the same. I repeat usually. Sometimes a different lot of the same bullet will vary slightly in density.
Great job.
Don't go making any screws, etc. permanent or hard to remove. You'll need the capability of taking the rifle apart. Don't over tighten. Just good and snug. They won't back out enough to be concerned with, if at all. Occasionally or whenever you go out to the range or on a hunt. You will want to check everything to be sure it is as you want it.
Just because you got a rifle to shoot well. Doesn't neccessarily mean that it will shoot that way under all conditions.
