Bodie

He's gonna be a dad! Getting the female next Sat and will have her two days. Little B/W slick coat from Prineville. A dog the breeder sold and he want's a litter out of it. Ought nto get some nice dogs. The female is a closer working dog, maybe that'll take some of Bodies range off the pup's! God can he haul the mail! But then his pedigree reads like the who's who of Amer Fld trial setter's so I shouldn't be suprized. I'll post some photo's when the pupos get here. Five are already sold!

Re: Bodie

Wouldn't ya know it, disaster struck. The little female showed up last Friday afternoon. Bodie wasn't impressed much and she wasn't passing any clear or amber fluid. Friday was supposed to be the nineth day. Well nothing got any better and after about a day and a half of Bodie turning up his nose I brought Squirt in. Squirt would breed a fence post just for something to do, but he wasn't real intrested in that little girl. Matter of fact, he went over took a sniff and grabbed my small cussion of the couch and mounted it! True story.

Well I called the breeder and told him what was going on and that I thought she was actually close to out. He told me no way; they'd been watching her really close because she was almost two months late. So I held on to her till today. Her, me Squirt and Bodie had a great time, she's a sweetheart! But there wasn't much in the way of heavying breathing going on around here. Finally the breeder had the owner's come get her today, gonna miss her. I talked to them and asked about the diaper they took off her when they dropped her off. It had very little blood in it but some amber fluid. That was on the ninth day. I asked how long it had been that way and they said a few days but the breeder had told them to bring her over the tenth day after they first saw blood. Then I asked if she was a clean dog, does she clean herself by licking. Yup! They'd noticed her starting to swell several days befor they saw blood so counted from the day they saw blood! Early in cycle some dogs bleed very little and those clean dogs, clean it up and you don't realize it has started. I figure that's what had happened and rather than the nineth day when she got here, it was closer to the fourteenth or fifteenth, she was well on her way out!

I told them next time she come's in to bring her to me soon as they see blood and I'll keep her thru her cycle. Six more months,,,damn!!!! Wacko

AWWWW! In love In love In love

I am going to haev to remember that when its my gal's time. She licks herself and was a bit swollen before I noticed any blood during her first cycle.

Question for you experianced folks... She's a lab, 65 lbs and very active. She hit her first cycle just days after she turned one. Is this normal for the first one, and should I still expected her subsequent cycles to fall around 6-8 months apart? confused?

Re: Bodie

Nothing really unusual about that. They can hit the first cycle anwhere from about 6mos to one yr plus. After that evey six to eight is about right.
