Welcome to the site.  I also

Welcome to the site.  I also hunt the CNF.  First thing I have to ask, is did you get any of the tags for this fall?  If not, the A22 (San DIego Archery) tags are sold out, as well as D16 (Archery and rifle buck).  The only choice may be an AO tag, but I never buy that so I am not too familiar with it.  I could find out and let you know.

As for hogs, they are very few and far between here, although they are spreading.  Private land (Good luck finding some) is where they are concentrated.  You can stumble on them in the CNF, but that is more of an incidental thing.  Hard to actually seek them out.

First step is to get a

First step is to get a current BLM map.  The acres of BLM ground in CA is enormous.

I don't know that there is a shortage of pigs right now, but I doubt it.  It is true that the last couple of years they have moved on from places they used to frequent but using Los Gatos Canyon near Coalinga as an example... they are returning, in abundance.  This last weekend during opening season for Deer I saw perhaps 20 of them.  One Boar I spotted I estimated at about 500lbs.  He was huge.

Contacting private land owners, if you'd prefer that, is always worth while because pigs are a nuisance.  Most land owners WANT to thin them out if not get rid of them entirely.  In the Holister area, down Hwy 20, and also over by King City I know of many land owners who seek pig hunters and for very reasonble fees. - JamesJM

What James said.... When I

What James said.... lol

When I was talking about hogs being few and far between, I was talking about San Diego county, which is where I think he is looking to hunt.

As for private land, I need to find a hook-up like that.  Never shot a pig yet, but want to.  Have help a tag for 3 years now.  It's a matter of time, I guess.
