Blacktail down 8-25-2010

Well the temp was 110deg. and it was 3 point wednsday, It was my buddys turn in the tree stand ( which he was first ) and we talked about the high heat so he climbed in the stand at 4:PM, at 6:30 the (hanging 3 point) came to water, we called him that because one of his forked points had broke off and the velvet held it intact for the last month or so.  Heres the pics. one from last night and one from this morning.

Congrats to your bud. Is

Congrats to your bud. Is "Hanging 3 pt" going to get mounted like he is? That would be a neat mount.  Were's your deer?

"Dairying is not a crime", what's that about?

blacktail deer

The envro-wacko's  in CA keep atacking the dairy's over here with over regulation. Many dairy's from here have moved to AZ.

As for the deer i am going to give it a panel mount, he didnt cool the hide down fast enough and the hair is slipping. If we get another  good blacktail later in october we might use that cape.

I only have a few evening to hunt now, I am to consumed with the thought of elk bulging in my head and we are leaving on 9-11 for our back country archery elk hunt, we will spend eight day living off the land and chasing horned ghost in the forest.

Good job haven't shot yet this year. Seen alot of bears though, just trying to get my son to arrow first this year so alot of chances but no blood. I think he is a trophy hunter? I'm not sure. I told him if he keeps it up he can just pack a camera, ha ha ha

Well congratulations to your

Well congratulations to your buddy. That is a pretty unique buck. Now that you ended up getting another buck are you going to use the cape on his buck and get it mounted or did you just decide against it. That is always a drag when people lose their trophies to high heat and the like. So was the bony portion of that tine still hanging inside of its velvet pouch? That is pretty cool. I hope that he atleast is preserving the velvet on the antlers and doing a European mount or something. Good luck on any other hunts you have planned for this year.
