OK, I know the Iron Bridge area. I'm down the hwy about another 2 hours. Blueberry season is usually done about the 1week of September--same as where you are. Sure wish it would be over sooner though because I'd be done baiting each day a lot earlier. The jigs up when I get in a bit late and my tongue is all blue from eating the things. I just take the one gang each week in camp. They're regulars and are to getting to the point where they don't really care if they get a bear or not. But, usually they limit out in two or three days anyway. The rest of the time they just kick back and relax--drive their quads and do a bit of fishing. And there's lots of bears around this year again. As for the opening evening hunt the only thing I find spooks the bears is a new stand set up. They smell out new cut branches right away and ladder stands really put the skids to them. You're doing it the right way, set up way ahead of time. As I've said before, I never worry about the wind and there's not much you can do about it anyway.

Hey sawbill....looked at the map. You aren't that far from us at all. I talked to the guides wife this morning and she said he's having problems with baits now too....too many berries!!! I'm going to call him tonight just to see how big of a problem he's actually having. I'm HOPING that the baits are still being somewhat hit. Do you ever use sweets on your baits??? We came into a bunch of twinkies, chocolate cupcakes and such. We're going to load the barrels up this weekend...what do you think??? Have you ever used popcorn and fryer grease with raspberry jello mix sprinkled in??Have you found anyway to draw them out of the berries or is it just time???

Hi Blackie

I am glad u've found tahini nearby, but the tahini alone will not do the trick, u need to mix it with molasses and other stuff to get the ultimate fall bait lure.

the tahini and molasses has no smell so bears will not be lured to ur bait by it alone ,therefore we add few things to it to get these bears in ,once they find it and taste it they will never leave .

don't worry too much about it and don't be upset about things that u cannot control on the internet, ur focus should be on helping ur daughter get her bear and nothing else,, i understand how much that mean to u and knowing that u only have 1 week to hunt make u more nervous ,, leave all this behind and let's get the job done .

I will send u all the ingredient to ur email , i will not post it in here anymore , and those who want it please send me a private message.

give me few days to get everything ready !

I've downloaded a satellite image of my daughters Big Boy Crib location, I added identifiers so you can see the ravines that this bear uses.
I guess out west, you would call them washes. The crib is up on top of what I call a plateau, 110 feet above the river, on a bend in this river is a swampy flood plane of about 50 acres. This and the ravines (coming up the plateau) is where I've found most of the tracks. I've got her set up on top between the ravines, near the heads.
Would you like me to post it or just send it to you?

Post the pics here , it will be nice to share it with the rest of the gang !

I am gonna have to go for a tough scouting trip near the rockies for a whole week .

I wanna see some of the signs u've found near the swamps , i also like the idea that u positioned the crib right between the 2 and right on the trail the bear takes in and out of the swamp .

if u r not busy it will not hurt to go back there and scout more , maybe u will find something new .
also try to find fresh scats if possible , that will increase ur chance a lot .

fall bear hunt is not an easy task !
