Black Deer in Maine

Cool black deer taken in Maine by a 14 year old.  Don't know if it was this site or another that we were discussing it before, but it's a melanistic deer.  More rare than albinos, and nobody has heard of them that far north.  There are some occurrances of them in Texas, but not there.

Again, the comments from the antis are irritating.

I am not totally sure, but I

I am not totally sure, but I believe it's like albinoism, in that it will take both parents to have the trait, in order for it to be passed on.  And, i am not sure it would even be a sure thing in that case.  Still really cool though.

Most of the comments are really bad but I loved this one.

That's a neat story. In all

That's a neat story. In all my reading about deer these 30 years, I have never heard about a black deer until now. Albino and piebald deer I have seen and I have taken one piebald but never heard of a black deer. Thanks for posting. Thumbs up
