Black bears atacking my game camera

Has any one had this problem. It only happens at night when the camera is set to use infared. Twice when I went out to down load pics the camera was ripped off the tree. The first time it was twenty yards away and open with the photo card out of it . the last time it was sitting right under the tree it was atached to.
Do bears see infared light?
We have over 100 pics in a week and in about ten of the pics there are two big boars in the pic at 17:10. but they are coming in at all hours from 5:00 till 22:00, but mostly at 10:00 and 17:00.
The foot print on one of the boars is five and a quarter inches across but the push in the mud might make them seem bigger.
Thanks F.K.

This is a very common thing. Bears will chew on everything different around a bait sire. You also have to really make sure you dont ever touch a trail timer or camera after touching bait or put them in a pack around bait. You dont realise you are leaving bait scent behind on your camera or on that tree many times while checking the photos.

You might try another tree and camo the camera better. Bears dont like things that they dont understand. I had a job as a seasonal back country ranger for a couple of summers while in college. I always carried a bunch of 16 penny nails with me to nail trail signs back up on trees. It seemd that if a bear walked by one it would rip it down.

I moved the camera to another tree after the first time , and now I have moved it to another bait sight. We have paterned the brears comeing into the one bait sight..
They only seem to be taking it down at night. This maybe because it only bothers one bear that is nocternal.
I go back tonight to bait up the sights so I will see what happens.
My hunting buddy and I have decided to start hunting Friday night. we are going to bait my sight and then he will leave on the ATV while I'm up the tree stand. I think the brears are hearing the ATV as a dinner bell.
Well good luck to every one who is bear hunting Thumbs up .

Bears like plastic. They will chew cameras, timers and black plastic water pipe.
Try and make sure that your hands are scent free before you touch the camera. Keep some disposable gloves just to handle it.

Maybe it's the camera because it is the sam one that I used. Yours got alot more chewed up than mine did. The bear only put a tooth through the lens over the infared flash.
Ithink I will invest in a security box.

Bears and trail cams .

Blackbearsman , First of all ,welcome aboard . I'm sure you will enjoy BGH There is a lot of friendly guys and gals on here that will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have .. Could you post a pic of the saftey box with instructions how you made them .I'm sure there would be lots of guys like to see just how you made it . There was some designs on another hunting forum that was definately bear proof ,but would be quite a chore to make without a welder . They were metal cases the the camera fit into .

I should have replied sooner ,but I was into the trapping and hunting and didn't have much time for the puter .
