Black bear tips

A friend and I would like to take a black bear this spring. We live around the Vancouver area and are thinking about scouting the Harrison area.

Does anybody have any good info about this area or any tips on bagging a bear. Neither of us have ever hunted one and don't know to much about their habits.

Black bear tips

Hunt bears at 10am till late evening ,bears are in slashes find some older slashes and you will find bears. Mid may is about the best time to find lots. Don't wait till the beginning of June to take one ,you might shoot one that is starting to rub his fur off the back legs. Make sure you have a good set of binoculars for viewing the slashes. 10x42 would be good ones to have. To identify an older bear look at his nose an older bear has lots of brown behind his nose with a big block looking face. When looking at a bear don't be quick on pulling the trigger ,it might be moma bear with one or two cubs ,the cubs during the period of April and May are close to the sow ,so glass and make sure there are no cubs around. Good luck ,Wayne. Thumbs up .

Bait 'em in Alberta

If you want to be sure you're shooting a boar, use bait - in Alberta & Manitoba. It gives you time to check them out.

Van Isle has the biggest bears for sure. You'll tag out, be picky.
