I would say #6 too because I would (and do) scout within a week of hunting an area. I want to know exactly where the animals are at (right now). Usualy I can go in and find a good spot the first or second scouting trip and hunt there.
Question #2, my answer is #6, as I am always scouting for a good bait site, I go wheeling (atv riding) alot during the summer months and will take notice of areas were we see bear or bear sign and then I might put out a bait. I also have a several hounding friends and they tell me where they ran some bears. this is during the training season and that is 1-2 months before the opener. I also place baits after the opener if I have seen a bear or bear sign in an area.
Question 2..Have to go with #5 .The most rottenest, smelliest, obnoxious buffet you can prepare, garnished with honey.
Hey Mrs Hammer 1 , don't help him out with the answers , let him oick the answers himself ![]()
i choose number 5
what do u think hotmoon??
Question #1 I chose answer #3 (mixed forrest with lots of water), cause bears need the evergreens for shade, the poplars allow for green grasses (which the bears eat) and lots of water cause bears need lots of water to drink as well as plenty of water = plenty of beavers! Question #2 I would chose answer #6 it's dependant on many factors: for spring I would start looking early April (our season starts end of April, but prime time is mid/end of May) beaver ponds with thick cover (perferable evergreens ) for my bait and stand. Fall baiting near natural food sources: berries acorns whatever they are keying on close to water and in thick cover is a must as well. (for both spring and falll the thicker the better as big bears love cover) The only problem with fall is that you are competing with the natural food sources in the spring you should have a monopoly on them! This is Fun keep em comin! ![]()
Question 2 I will have to go with number 2. I find that in the first week of spring when the snow melts the bears tend to move to the more greener pastures. Then pick a spot for the bait
Question # 3
In order to survive the winter, black bears sleep in dens big enough to fit them, where are these dens located :
1 on slopes with plenty of thick cover
2 bottom of valleys with plenty of thick cover
3 on top of ridges with plenty of thick cover
4 any place as long it provide thick cover
5 in the open
6 none of the above ( tell us where )
# 1... The overwhelming majority of "winter" dens I have come across are on mountain slopes that are hevily grown over with vegitation.
The temporary dens they use while in a given area during spring, summer or fall all tend to be in anyplace that offers thick cover and is relativly close to thier food supply. These are called "dens" by some people but are mainly a place a bear will feel comfortable enough for a daytime siesta.
as for Question#2,i would have to say #5,being my first year baiting, this year i didn't know ant better and this worked for me.Question #3 i would have to say #4 because i have seen them from the top to the bottom of the mountains that we hunt
