Hotmoon, you should re-post your disclaimer that your reasons and reasoning often applies to your area specifically. This is likely why you and I are at odds on so many theories. Even where I am in Northern Ontario, bears have long since denned before the first snow. I betcha its the same for the guys hunting in Tennessee and other southern climates.
BTW, one of my hunters took a boar last night that weighed on a scale, 345 lbs. field dressed so on the hoof would have weighed close to 400. The guy was from Ohio and was the first bear he's ever seen.
