I have never hunted bear, but would love to. We can't bait in Colorado, so that's discouraging.

Anyways... on to your first question.

I would have to say #3 mixed, because I've seen them in aspen, oaks (the shrubs, not trees), and other low bushy type cover, not just in the evergreens. If there are large open areas, the bear will usually stick to the fringes of the open areas.
