Bison hunting anybody interested????

Looking for a couple more guys to undertake a extreme adventure. I'm planning a Bison Hunt in northern Alberta , FEB-MARCH 2008 . It would be one of the most taxing hunts out there. Time needed would be 12 to 14 days, the main equipment needed would be a VERY reliable lite weight snowmobile. Wolf and icefishing also. The Bison are free ranging no LIC required. I've been researching this hunt for two years, have a couple of guys but need a few more to make this a safe and successful hunt .

I might be. I killed one up near Wood Buffalo once before, back when I still lived in Alberta. Where are you thinking of going in from and what area are you thinking of hunting?

I have been in the Margaret Lake area a couple times. Are you talking about going up the Wentzel Lake Road?

Local contacts are good. Some of the locals have been known to take offence to people hunting "their bison" and trashed vehicles while guys were in the bush. It would be nice not to have to worry about that.

Bison Hunting in Alberta

One of the guys comming lived on the IR for a summer. FW said the same thing about the native's " their bison" but did not have any reports of vandelism . FW said just keep camp out of site, out of mind! I would think a day of hard hunting a person might take a day off, we could have rotating camp cook.

Yes it would be good to have a guy in camp, but my concern would be that the bison might be a long way from where the vehicles are, and so might be camp.

Anyways, do you have a more definite date that you and the other guys are planning on? I might be interested as long as it does not conflict with some other irons I have in the fire.

Are you thinking 5 or 6 guys, each with a machine and sled? Wall tents and tin heaters?

bison

might have to run a remote camp if too far from main. also I'm working on accessing some trapping cabins for emerg shelters .. Camp would be a couple of tents, I have a couple with winter liners and large wood stoves. dscott09@telus.net

I'm interested. Turbo Mulcher, I sent you an email.

Once you find the Bison, are they in open country or thick brush. How far are the shots? Would a muzzleloader be practical? I've heard you use the sleds until you cut a fresh track and are close enough to use snowshoes. I've also heard getting them out is a major task itself. You may have to qtr'em fast and hual'em out. ;-)

Well I would like to go, but I have been trying to get my commitments sorted out for that time of year and at this point I think I am going to be in Argentina in early March if things work out, so I will have to pass. Good luck.
