this is rather interesting, you figure deer are vegetarian, gentle creatures..

but that saying didn't stop this deer from eating birds!

Bird eating deer?

Well apparently what scientists found out is that this deer was lacking some kind of mineral or vitamin in it's original diet, grass, etc. so it found the mineral it was lacking in this birds head..and legs..

I was shocked to see it on the tv that night, i never expected this deer would ever do that to a live animal!

I feel real bad for the bird lol lol

Oh well..

Glad you enjoyed it!

Interesting, just another reason to keep hunters out in full force. Looks like at least whitetail will not only eat up bird habitat but the chicks too....

Good link!

There is also video footage of a deer eating fish. Some fish trapped in a drying pool, and the deer ate them. Weird.

It is weird that deer are going way out of their original diets to get the nutrition they need..

Oh and by the way, if deer eat fish, then the fish will give them bad breath...or fishy breath..

which leads me to the question that i've been thinking about as a hunter..

Though i've never had the nerve to try..

Does a deer's breath really smell bad? or not..

Because they don't brush their teeth and plaq and gingivitus grows on them, and gingivitus is what causes bad breath..but then again, they are (some are) vegetarians Wink and they eat plants, so i figured that the moisture in the leaves and stuff they eat, essentually cleans their mouth and such from bacteria, and gingivitus and such..

But i am not really sure...

I never wanted to stick my nose in a deer's mouth...expecially a dead one..but i am curious...what would you guys think?

Fascinating. Very fascinating. It doesn't suprise me. I've heard about deer investigating gut-piles from other deer in colorado, and nibbling on some of the "better" parts (whatever those are). If they'll eat the guts of their fallen kind, I don't see the big deal in eating birds eggs or fish...

Around here they ignore the gut piles and walk past them, it don't bother them or anything..they don't eat it, but i am sure it gives them a nasty taste in their mouth and gut breath lol
