To Big for a Lock On

I just got an invite to Bow hunt tomorrow morning on a pretty good property.  I’ll be hunting from a lock on overlooking a creek bottom.  Here's the reality.  I've let myself go physically.  Put on 40 extra pounds since two seasons ago.  My buddy has some older lock ons he still uses.  Small tiny platforms.  I wonder if they can take the 260 lbs I’m carrying.  I'm still pretty limber for a bigger guy.  Most think I only weigh in around 220.  I have to tell you I put a TON of trust into my harness.  Moving around in the dark getting that harness strapped in around the tree is nerve racking for me.  Finally, when I sit down I breathe a sigh of relief.  This year twice I've climbed into a stand and was nervous.  I get to the point I have to lean out feeling that strap holding me back for comfort.  It’s time to lose some serious weight and get focused about it.  205 lbs would be great.  Can't be limited on where I can hunt from because I'm too big for a lock on.

Well, some of those stands

Well, some of those stands top out at 250, but some are recommended up to 300 lbs.  Not sure what your stands are rated at.

Back in Vermont, my Dad and I use homemade ladder stands.  We can't get them as high, but they are really sturdy, and you can make a good size platform on them.  Never really had a problem with them, except last year when my Dad found that someone had sliced the rope that secured it to the tree.  But, that's another story.

Good luck, BTW.  Sounds like a good opportunity.  How many deer can you get in your part of Georgia?  I know there are some places there that allow LOTS of deer to be killed.

allowed 10 does and two bucks

allowed 10 does and two bucks one buck must have at least 4 points on one side.  However, our property cannot sustain that kind of harvest.

12 deer?????  Man, I'd

12 deer?????  Man, I'd love to have a place that 1 deer a year was within reach, let alone 12.  I will be happy with the first legal deer to walk by in Vermont this fall.

Best of luck!

Well, our season in Tn opens this weekend (bow) and then gun runs through 1 Jan 2012. We are able to take three deer/day for the entire season, with proper permits. Additional deer do not cost more, you simply need the proper licenses. So 3 deer/day for 99 days is our limit, with no more than 3 bucks (no size limitations).  Dancing

The lock on stand I have is

The lock on stand I have is rated for 300lbs, When I bought it i was around 265 now I'm down to 225, as long as its rated for 300lbs or more you'll be fine. Also make sure your harness is also rated for your weight, I saw on the other day that was only rated for 200lbs. The one that I have is good upto 350lbs. Be safe and drop a monster.
