BGH.net great site little traffic?

I have been on sites all over the web, and I mean to tell you this is a great site.  Why is there not more traffic here?  I am very happy to have stumbled on this place, and I intend to send more folks in this direction as I cruise the web.  I am going to email this site to my clients over the Christmas holidays.  Great site that should be more popular, folks are missing out.

It usualyy does have

It usualyy does have alot more traffic than right now.  Do not know if the holidays or what.  I can tell you that from July to September it can get real busy as guys are making plans for hunting trips and such.  Things just follow a weird patteren.  I belong to a waterfowl site that is dead 9 months out the year and then once waterfowl season starts...you miss a day on there and it is hard to catch up somedays!

You're right about the lack

You're right about the lack of posting compared to other sites...it just doesn't have the quantity, but I think it makes up for it in quality of posts.

You don't find much fighting here like you do on other sites and that fighting is what drives traffic sometimes.  Pretty drama free here and easy to keep up on the posts.

Fireside Lounge

We are kinda like a Fireside Lounge around here where everyone knows your name and we come in and sit around the fire just chatting away and relaxing, while some other sites are like the Super Clubs where the music is thumpimg and not much is being said and what is being said you can't hear for the loud music.

Yes, I think I'll have another, mam.   Wink

software?

I think it is a software thing.

There is GREAT information on this site, but every screen has some sort of pop up.

For anyone with a slow connection or a high security setting it is an ordeal to be on a site with a lot of photos, pop ups and graphics.  It is just not worth the effort to deal with the long delays of screen loading times.  For them.  That's my theory as to why the site has light traffic.

I know that it cut down on my visits to the site for a long time until I came back and discovered the current contest.  That is a GREAT tool for luring folks back.  It sure worked for me anyway!

What kind of popups Mike? You

What kind of popups Mike? You should not be seeing any popups because we don't allow them. You can PM us. Please explain in detail, because if it's coming via one of our advertisers we need to know.

Is anyone else seeing popups? If yes, please let us know.

I haven't noticed any pop ups

I haven't noticed any pop ups but have experienced some slow loading that I believe is caused by the graphics.

I'll pm you the pop-up blocker message I get on Monday.  I don't get it on my home computer but I get it on my (er-um...work computer... ahem....).

From memory it is something like "our security setting has blocked a pop-up from double click advertising, click here if you want to allow it...yadda yadda. " I ignore it, but it comes up on almost every screen.  Although I know nothing about programing or filters or well anything much techbical, I strongly suspect that it has to do with the changing sidebar.  For instance the Camera Land ad up as I type is cycling between images of binoculars and cameras.  I think that changing display is what is being blocked as a pop up.  Its no problem where you have a fast connection, but on dial up it would slow things way down unless you make your settings block images.

The popups are from your

The popups are from your security settings at work. If we had popups, you would see them on all computers. The Camera Land ad is an animated gif, and we run some flash ads as well.

At work, allow the doublclick ads and you won't see the annoying popup screens any more. We do run doublclick ads, so yes you will see that screen on every page. Ads pay to operate the BGH site, so it can be used and viewed for free by our members.

Tahnks for the tip, you seem to be correct of course.  I'll have to look into getting the settings changed or figuring out how to do it myself.  My first attempt didn't seem to cahnge anything but I'll keep working on it.  Lest I be misunderstood - its a great site.  I'm just saying that a lot of images and animations slow down the transitions on slower connections (like my home connection!).

I don't get any, cause we

I don't get any, cause we have pop-up blockers enabled at work.  Not any problems with that.

Yes, this is a great site.  I find that if you want to come to a place where you can get specific info on a wide range of topics, over a wide range of geography, this is the place to go.

I have two other sites I go to for more local stuff to California and Vermont, but nothing that is this well rounded and informative,
