better day at the range

First thing today, I built a shelf that fits over my cronograph screens to shield the sun off the snow. Worked!!! Thumbs up

Set up and fired 15 rounds over the screens with 129gr Hornadys and 52.0 grs RL-19. Group under 3/4" @ 100yds. Where it was befor. Load is 1/2 gr under max but think I have more room with the throat I have. Extreame spred was 18.5fps and ave vel was 2952fps.

Moved on to the 140gr Hornady with RL-19. Started at 50.0 grs and went up to 51.5 grs in 1/2gr increments. Up to 51.0 grs was nothing. then at 51.5 grs I got a three shot group at 7/8". As I recall when I first got this thing, the faster I drove the bulets the better it shot. Unfortunately at just over 3100fps with the 140gr bullet case life was 2, as in two rounds and throw the case away. Accuracy was very good.

For this 51.5gr, RL-19 load only three shots, ave vel 2829fps, es 23.1fps. I'm pretty sure I can hit over 2900fps but will find out later I guess. If I can get the accuracy down around 3/4" at 2900fps that might suit me.

Sounds like your'll all set now as long as you can keep the weather on your side Thumbs up
The 270 win is another one that "the hotter the better" seems to be the way to go but you have to seat the bulets perfectly for your particular rifle.

Well I've been out two more times and everything turned to dodo! The rifle wouldn't shoot any relaible groups at all. So I took the 4-12 Bushnell off and put the Tasco World Class back on. That's better. Think I got a bad scope and when I jacked it up to shoot 400yds, the adjustment's give up the gost. Well I took it back today and up graded to a nikon 4.5-14 with covered turret's and a side parallax adjustment. They had it for $300 but on sale for $269. Gave me back my money on the Bushnell and brough me out a new Nikon. Gave the box to the cashier and it wouldn't ring up the right price. Seem's the price on their sticker was an old price of $229. Well the manager came over and gave it to me for the $229! $70 off list! Somethings just turn out well. Now out tomorrow to sight it in. I'd have done it today but town's a long way off.

I believe it's back. I had ten rounds left so used 5 to sight in and then a 5 shot group just over 3/4" @ 100. Now to start tweeking! By the way, this Nikon is a nice scope but wish it was crosshairs rather than that range compensating thing. Might be able to get them changed later.
