best over the counter rifle?

I am buying a new rifle in 300 WBY stainless w/ synthetic stock. What is the best brand of out of the box rifle to buy? I have a few Remington 700 now and like them. Are they all as accuriate?

Fisherprice, I have had good luck with Winchester's 243 and 3006. Don't know about 7mm's though.

Sako Tikka and Weatherby, but I don't have much experience with Weatherby. The reason I think their the best is that they are accurate most of the time out of the box and the triggers are good. They are made better too. It is hard to find rifles now days that aren't made of all steel.

For the money, dependability and accuracy, a Remington 700 CANNOT be beat. excellent triggers (with adjustment), good looks and a "bulletproof" action. I own several 700's, including 3 full blown comp. rifles, and have NEVER had a parts failure, and have owned or seen several, that were capable of .5-.75 groups, untouched, out of the box.

I've got to agree with Kgoody. I own several Remingtons in 700, 760, 742, 870, etc. All of my rem. are accurate. My Sendero SF is easily inside of .75" without a proper rest(backpack). You won't go wrong with Remington... well maybe the 710!

Have you ever shot a 300 wby? It's way to much gun even for elk. The recoil is brutal, and the ammo is expensive. I think the new 300 wsm would be a great all around gun to own. Why not try something new!

big game, requires a larger caliber. The wsm is an alright caliber, but what will it do, that the .300 win mag will not? Cartridge companies have been in a desperate race, to develop new calibers , strictly to boost the sales of rifles.I agree that the .300 wby is pricey to shoot, but other alternatives exist.Asfar as recoil, how many rounds need to be fired at an elk? Large big game rifles, and recoil, unfortunately, go hand and hand.

I promise you that if you buy one of the rem 710 package guns you will not be dissapointed.. have had experence with 2 of them in 270 ...they out shoot most custom guns with factory ammo ..its a fact...3/4 inch or under with the 3x9 scope which comes with the gun..go to wal-mart and get you one...comes ony in 270& 30-06 I have only shot the 270....

Browning makes a great hunting rifle called the BAR. It's an auto-loader. In .308 it's a tack driver! This rifle is also available in magnum calibers.

Elk do not usually respond to a chest hit like a deer. But two quick shots from my .308 always gets the job done.

I also like the auto-loader for antelope. Where I live, its common to purchase a double license. Being able to shoot twice before the herd knows what is happening has filled my tags many times.

Is the bolt, lever, pump, or automatic better than another? Answer is maybe. But I like my Browning automatic and will not critisize all you non-auto fans. Please do not fault my choice either.

Jack, I surely would not scoff at your choice, I myself own a 7400 in .280. bad thing is though, that many states will not allow the use of an autolaoder.

If you are buying an .300 Wby or any Wby caliber, then by an Weatherby Firearm.
