Best Homemade Wild Hog Feed

A friend of mine and I are heading out on a hog hunting trip this weekend.  I wanted to try and leave some kind of feed down, to see if we can possibly get lucky catching one in the middle of feeding time.  Any kind of homemade remedy or helpful tips would help.

I live in CA, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help in advance fellas!

All the best,

Dondo90 Thumbs up

Well, the best advice I can

Well, the best advice I can give you, is to NOT DO IT!  IT IS ILLEGAL in California.... Wink

Any feeding or baiting of wild animals in California is illegal, unless you are hunting on a private,  fenced reserves.

If you are just headed out onto public land, or private ranch land that is not a working game ranch with fences. then it is a big no-no.  Here is a good site with a rundown on the question:

http://californiahuntingtoday.com/hogblog/2010/01/07/baiting-hogs-in-ca/

As it says there, you can technically use scent attractants.  It spells out a way to put some jello and water mixture out there, that will disapate into the ground, therefore leaving no "bait".  however, any other means of laying down food, hunting over intentionally placed water, salt licks, etc., is considered to be illegal.

Just be careful, and have fun. Thumbs up

Thank You

Thanks for the heads up.  I knew it was illegal on public land, I just did not know the same rules applied on private land.  Well we ended up hunting as we usually do and had no luck.  Just another excuse to make another trip soon and try again.

Once again, thanks for the heads up.  I will though, keep that in mind if I try a hog hunt somewhere else where they allow feeding and such.

Best,

Dondo90

The only way it's legal on

The only way it's legal on private is if it's fully fenced, and the animals in there were privately purchased, and considered livestock, essentially.

All other private land, as long as the animals are "wild" and can come and go as they please, it's illegal.

Sorry you didn't get anything this time, but best of luck to you! Hope we'll see some success photos!!!
