Hey CDhunt which outfitter were you with in NFLD ? I'd like to plan a moose hunt for, hopefully, next year and am looking for inside info on outfitters.
Having been involved in the demise of 100+ moose you'd think I'd have some serious observations on the subject. but it's shot placement plain and simple. My wife uses a 300 Savage with 165 Hornady spire points at 2500 fps and has killed 12 bulls with 16 shots. On the other hand while guiding I've seen nearly that many 375s used to take 1 moose.
My personal favorite is the 358 Norma Mag with 280Swifts or 300 Barnes originals. If a new moose rifle was on the menu it would be a LIGHT 35 Whelan Imp on a mod 70 action.

I'd like to take one with my .375 Ruger, or my .450 Marlin.

If I draw a tag this year I am taking my .375 H&H probably with the Speer 270 gr BTSP loaded over a healthy does of IMR 4064. I have confidence in my gun. I tried using the .270 this year for antelope but couldn't hit a thing. So I put it back in the safe and took out the .375. First shot and I was getting my hands bloody. Got a nice doe.
A 375 on speed goats MIGHT be considered by some folks a bit over gunning for them leetle varmits.

There are several degrees of wounded but only one degree of dead.
Realisticly it doesn't destroy as much meat as my .300 did.
OKIE DOKIE-But I'll stick to me .243

I like the .243 also. It is probably my second favorite round.
I have shot plenty of moose with my 30-06 Sako and my 300 Weatherby Mag. My preference is the 300. I took this Boone & Crockett bull last fall in northern British Columbia with 1 shot.
