Best 300 out there...MINE!!!! OK just kidding, but I do like it that much. I've got a Rem. 700 LSS in .300 win mag. Why I ultimately chose that one is the wide range of rounds available. As far as the recoil goes, I've never had a problem with it. I'm 6'3", 225 lbs (may or may not play a role in the whole thing), but I've basically gotten it into my head that, "Hey, my gun is gonna kick a little. Deal with it." So I feel like I've gotten the whole recoil factor out of my way and I can concetrate on the shot. Heck, I even used it to shoot prairie rats one day (it was the only gun I had with me @ the time). Good luck to ya!
I think it would be the sako model 75 in a 300 whby. SWEET...
I hear what you mean, Rookie. It took me a little bit to handle the full power 250 grain loads from my .35 Whelen. Not pleasant. BUT...I love the round and the gun, so I was determined to stick with it.
If you want a killer rifle, try a Weatherby Accumark 30-378 Wby Mag. This rifle shoots a barnes 180 Gr. Triple Shock at 3425 FPS 1/2"MOA. With the muzzlebreak it has the recoil less than a 270 Win. Great caliber.

That would be definitely trying something different!
It is an awsome calibre(30-378) but with the price of factory ammo it is definitely a reloader.
Ive reasearched the .300 before I bought my .300 wsm, and the reason i chose that is because the price and availability of ammo for a .300 wby is expensive although the new weatherby vanguard rifle makes getting a .300 wby about the same cost as a the Model 70
I'm not big on belted cases. Have owned several and never was real happy with any of them. For a long barreled long shooter I would probably go with the 300rum. For a short general hunter/shooter I went with the 300wsm.
There is another option, that is if you've just inherited a chunk of money. The long 300 Lazzeroni. Amazing round.

.308 Norma Mag.
I love belted cases, in part because those have been the only types of magnums rounds I've dealt with personally on a regular basis.
