Best 300 out there?

I'm in the market for a new 300. I know I can always buy a 300 Win. but want to try something different. Anybody have any thoughts between the 300 WBY, WIN, WSM, RSAUM. Etc

It's all a matter of choice. 300 Winchester Magnum's a fine round, it'll kick you harder than a 30-06 or a 7mm Remington Magnum, but it will drive a 180 grain bullet as fast as the other two can push a 160 or 165 grain bullet. Plus, if my ballistics-savvy is correct, it's still got about 2000 ft-lbs, give or take a little, at 400 yards. The 300 Weatherby shoots quite a bit flatter, and with more speed and energy, but it's recoil gets old. Fast. Ammo is expensive too. A 300 Remington Ultra-Magnum is a fine round, but its generally redundant of the Weatherby 300.

300 Savage. It is killer. You'll probably have to pick up a used older model, but they are one of the nicest shooting rifles I know of and are priced reasonably.

The 300 savage is being "re-introduced" by a couple of companies. Not sure which ones off hand but I'll look around to see if I can find the article.

Imho the 300 wby is the choice, if you can handle the recoil, which in my opinion is not that bad, also you can reach out and touch something with the 300 wby. It or the 340 wby are my "go to" guns, if i am going for anything other than whitetails.

Oh yeah, the 300 Savage! That's the case that the 308 Winchester was derived from, so accuracy and mid-range performance should be right up there.

I absolutely love my 300 Savage. It's a Remington 722. It'll take any deer alive, but it hardly kicks at all. Remington's 2003 700 Classic was in .300 Savage.
I don't think that's the kind of 300 that Fisherprice is looking for, though.
I would suggest the 300 Win Mag or 300 WSM. Both offer plenty of snap, but cost and recoil are both manageable for most people.

I shot the Rem 300 SAUM with 165gr loads this past season here in Idaho took a nice 5x5 Mule deer and a fair 6x6 bull elk. It work very well.

Took the buck at 265yds and the Bull at a longer range then I like to say.

This next season I will be shooting a 300wsm with 165 gr sierra HPBT GameKings at 3100fps, they group 2 inch'es or less at 300yds in my new Tikka T3 SS SYN 300wsm. Outlaw

Cdhunt,

I live about 2.5 hrs from Digby(on the southern shore) but my wife is from Annapolis and that isn't very far from Digby.

I have a 300 ultramag rem. sendero SF and it is a great round but is not for everybody. It comes with a kick that is sharp but managable(range time will get you used to it). If recoil is a consideration though this is not the calibre for you.

Yeah, definitely trust Chester on that! If you get into trouble with a recoil flinch, it may prevent you from hitting game well.
