Benezette PA the site of a new viewing area

STATE COLLEGE (AP) - Gov. Ed Rendell said the state will give $5 million to help build an elk watching, conservation and education center in Pennsylvania.
The center, including exhibits, trails and viewing areas, will be built in cooperation with the Missoula, Mont.,-based Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, which will spent $2 million on the center and about $5.6 million to run it for 30 years.
The center will be built on 245 acres the foundation owns near Elk State Forest in Benezette Township, Elk County, Rendell said Tuesday at the Governor's Outdoor Conference.
Rendell recalled hearing elk bugling in the area where the center will be built, though he did not see the elk. "It sent chills up my body," he said.
The center is expected to open in the spring of 2009.
