Well, unless you plan on ordering some food, then you better not bring any waiters, stick with the waders..... ;)

Just kidding...... Big smile

First thing, learn duck identification. Too many guys go out and shoot birds, retrieve them, and then see if it's a keeper. After that, then try to find a friend that hunts, and see if he'll let you tag along. Duck hunters are a passionate bunch, and alot of them enjoy having others along......

ok first of all calls are the last thing you need to worry about starting off. What you should do is find some one whos been at the game a while and ask to tag along with them until you feel comfortable enough to go on your own.before you go out go to the skeet range a bit just to get used to some different shot angles than you may see hunting upland birds. waders are generaly a good idea but sometimes aren't required, that being said since you were told you'd need waders get a pair i'd recomend chest waders but thats my opinion,:they don't have to be neoprene and camo, rubber and biege or green worked for a long time. decoys are something you can gradualy build upon but cabelas has a deal on a dozen malard decoys that should do for starting you off.the most important thing you'll eventualy want is a dog, i've had nights were the only birds i got where cripples my dog found and that doesn't hurt my feelings at all. well good luck and happy hunting.

waterfowling is kind of like owning a boat--you know that hole in the water you fill with dollars--
believe me --today with all the newbie companies offering the most indispensable STUFF you best get a second job--OR get a 12 ga pump(used ok) I like the 870- not the Express model--some 3" shells- #2 for dux and BB for geese--waders- a DZ or so dekes-and get with it- later add the Mud motor and boat- a skiff- field dekes-- Mojo's--a trailer to hold all the crapola- some fancy drake dress up clothes--some GHG gear--and then hope bird flu doesn't shut it all down. OH yea a nice big diesel truck to pull it all around. and i forgot DOGS-- two at least so like with me now- I was in devil's lake hunting waterfowl and my wife took one of our labs out for pheasant- hit a staub- got a hole in shoulder so he's out for a while after yrs of training- feeding etc- other one ok but has problems as he had Lymes and noe has throid problem- see what fun it can be??

in addition you'll also need a few good, mature, reliable, and responsible hunting friends. Trust me, don't go out in the marsh by yourself, especially if you plan on wading. Let me just say that stuff happens and when it does you'll be glad to have a hunting partner near by.
