Beer Drinkers?

Have not seen a topic like this one here before. Thought I'd get one going. How many beer lovers do we have here? Any home brewers? What is your favorite style of beer?

I appreciate a good pint usually twice a week. I'm no beer snob though, I have a wide variety that I will drink. My favorite beer style however is Ale. More specifically Pale Ale. Both the slightly hoppier American craft brew versions and the more malty English versions.

Also a big fan of English style Porters and Brown Ales. Prefere the English version of Porters and Browns mainly because of the typical over infusion of hopps in the American versions. Porters and Brown Ales just aren't supposed to be overly hopped beers. I do however appreciate lots of hopps in a good India Pale Ale. Unlike the modern English brewers, the American craft brew industry is brewing IPAs much more true to the traditional and original IPA, much like the English used to brew in the 18th and 19th century.

Others I have always liked are German Hefe Wiesens and Marzens (lager). I've tasted many different brewers versions of these styles and have come to the opinion that when it comes to these two beer styles, the Germans still brew them much better than anyone else.

Then there are my old stand-by. Coors Banquet and Pabst Blue Ribbon. Hey, like I said, no one can accuse me of being a beer snob Laugh

Ok, I'll bite! Laugh

I'm not a huge beer connoisseur, but I do have my favorites. I usually go for the amber or dark, like the Mexican beers that are readily available in our area. Negra Modelo is one of my faves.

Also like Fat Tire, not sure if that's available outside of Colorado. Like the on tap version much better than bottled.

In the Keys we tried a beer called Red Stripe, made in Jamaica. My husband and I both liked it a lot. Unfortunately its not one I can find locally and will probably have to go back to the Keys - or to Jamaica for some more!

And I agree with WesternHunter, nothing like a good German beer! But you gotta go to Germany for the real deal! Yes I haven't found anything I can buy here that compares to the real German beer.

Don't care for Coors, Miller, Pabst, any of the run-of-the-mill beers. And most definitely don't like the lite beers. Yuk!

My favorite craft brewery in Colorado is Odell Brewing in Ft Collins. I'm a huge fan of their 5 Barrel Pale Ale, Cutthroat Porter, 90 Schilling, and their India Pale Ale. Odell's beers are more limited in distribution outside Colorado. New Belgium brewery has a more wide distribution outside the state.

You should try brewing your own beer. It's a lot of fun and not as difficult as one would think. The toughest part is getting the 4 cases of beer bottles empty for refilling.

When using the 22 oz Canadian quart bottle for home brew, I used a 30.06 case to measure the corn sugar when bottling. If I wanted a little extra snap I used a 300 Weatherby mag case. Lite brew was not a consideration
I so reverently referred to Lite Beers as " Starter Kits"

Couldn't agree with you more! I like Keith's Red, Keith's Lager, and Alpine! I don't like the pale ales that much... more of a lager guy I guess. Garrison makes some brown ales that I enjoy.
