Eastern NC holds a TON of bear. It is not unlikely to see 4 or 5 in a single afternoon of hunting. The best county for bear is definetely Hyde county. You can still hunt or dog hunt, but remember - baiting is illegal!
I am not sure if bear hunting is allowed on Van Swamp state game lands, but I used to hunt that area 5 or 6 years ago before it became state lands, my father and myself killed several nice bears there. It is located near Plymouth in Washington County.
Let me start off by saying I am not a farmer.
I am a deer hunter and I do own a tractor and have all of the equipment - but that does not make you a farmer any more than standing in the garage makes you a car - well, you get the picture!
Having said that - and with most of my ineptitude fairly well hidden - I do think that buckwheat is one of the most under rated cover crops out there.
I say cover crop because I see mixed results as it relates to the deer eating the plants.
