Which of the 3 bear hunting methods do you fellow BGH use to hunt bears... Spot and stalk, dogs, or sit over bait?
Most hunters around here use dogs to hunt bears b/c the terrain doesn't allow for spot & stalk and baiting is illegal. Some hunters hunt food sources from treestands and elevated boxblinds. And others just get lucky enough to take a bear while deer hunting.
Here in Colorado we cannot use dogs or bait. So it is "one on one" on the ground. I typically spot and stalk, but on several occasions have called them in.
Bait, there is to much cover for S&S and dogs aren't legal here.
I only bait here in Michigan. And I am doing the early season before the dog hunters this year or if not lucky at first with them.
I'm going to set a bait this year and get a trail camera to see what kind of action it is getting. I figure while I'm out elk hunting I'll try and spot and stalk
I would love to use bait in this state but not allowed here in Wash. neither is hounds. I have just bought a trail cam and am excited to sit it out and see what is out there.
Bait and dogs not legal in oregon, so I call and spot and stalk.
I've tried calling but I mostly stick to spot and stalk.
Spot and stalk. Don't think it's too sporting hunting them while they are eating donuts......
I think I would prefer chasing them on the ground but I don't mind other people hunting over bait. Just not really my cup of tea I guess.
